Black Welsh is remarkable for its all black fleece. The fleece is coarse to medium with moderate luster and good loft. Because the fleece is coarse it is most suitable for outerwear, upholstery fabric or rugs. Staple length is 3-4 inches. The color makes it an interesting blending choice to create mixed natural color yarns.

Finnsheep originated in... Finland. The wool is lustrous, soft and fine. Yarn spun from Finn is suitable for a range of projects from sweaters and throws to hats and mittens. The micron count ranges from 24 - 31, staple length from 3 - 6 inches.

Biggest of the British breeds, Lincolns have a broad white face and woolly forelock as well as white woolly legs. Staple length is 6 - 14 inches, fiber micron count of 33 - 41. Lincoln wool is very lustrous and wavy, but like many longwools it is slightly coarser. A great wool for dyeing, it produces true and vibrant colors. Crimp it for “hair and beards.”

Bluefaced Leicester is a fine, semi-lustrous longwool with a staple length that ranges from 3-6 inches and micron of 24-28 and 56's-60's count. Descending from the Border Leicester breed, their name comes from the fact that the skin on their head that shows through their fleece is a dark blue color. Yarns spun from this breed are very soft, yet strong.

Jacobs are known for their distinctive spotted white and brown fleece. Staple lengths range from 3 to 6 inches, micron 27-35 and count of 46's-54's. The amount of white verses brown varies depending upon the individual sheep. At birth the brown is most intense and gradually lightens as the sheep ages. Jacob is known for being lofty and semi-lustrous. Because of its unique characteristics, Jacob is in high demand by handspinners. We feature the dark brown fleece.
