Merino is the softest and finest of all wools, with counts ranging from 64 - 70 and staple lengths of just over 3 inches. In addition to fine, fine, and more fine, merino fibers have a close tight crimp which gives consistent loft to spun yarn. Nice for blending.

Corriedale sheep were developed in Australia and New Zealand from a Merino and Lincoln cross resulting in a wool that has a good crimp and long fiber length. Corriedale wool is relatively fine, having a wool count between 50-56, micron of 25-31, and staple lengths ranging from 3.5-6 inches.

Nearly every spinner has spun Romney at some time - many of us learned on it. Our natural white Romney top is sure to become one of your favorites. Romney wool, with a count of 44 - 48, tends to be a little coarser and has wider crimp than Corriedale wool. The staple lengths range from 5 - 7 inches.

Coopworth is a breed of sheep resulting from inbreeding Border Leicester and Romney crossbreeds in New Zealand. Coopworth fleece is characteristically silky and easy to spin. The fibers are strong and medium to coarse in texture counts ranging from 46 –50. Staple lengths range from 4 - 6 inches. Coopworth roving is great for beginners, because it is carded roving instead of a combed top. Made in four colors: 1 - natural, 2 - light grey, 3 - medium grey, & 4 - dark grey

Our domestic wool top is a blend of a variety of different sheep breeds here in Maine. It is medium textured, having an average count of 54. It will yield beautiful, natural colored worsted spun yarns.

Shetland is a soft and downy shortwool believed to have orgins in Scandinavia. Today, the breed is most often found on the Shetland Islands. The staple length ranges from 2 to 5 inches, 30-40 micron, and 50-56 count. It is well suited for spinning fine yarns, making it perfect for lace knitting. It felts very well. In fact, caution should be taken when washing items made from shetland because irreversible changes can occur. Shetland fleeces are available in wide range of natural colors.
