Fiber Arts News

We’re having fun browsing our fiber-arts news alerts. This month seems to be full of fairs and exhibits. Lots of interesting happenings in weaving and fiber arts!

First, the above Fiber: Sculpture 1960 to present, caught our eye as an interesting exhibit. A cool reminder of the freeform and boundry-pushing possibilities in fiber arts. Anyone in, or passing though, Boston might want to check it out, through Jan 4th, 2015!

Heading across to the west coast, there is a wonderful looking exhibition of fiber arts going on through Nov 29th at Sequim on the North Olympic Peninsula…

Not to leave out the mid-west, there is a fiber festival and exhibition this coming weekend in Leland, Michigan.

And let’s not forget the fiber fun going on in the Shetland Islands… and there is a wonderful sounding exhibit aimed at reinvigorating weaving arts going on in the Philippine Islands (image below). Anyone up for a road trip?!?

It seems that October is a busy month for fiber arts happenings!

Speaking of re-invigorating weaving, it’s fun to think about making weaving and design into a business. There are different scales at which you could do that – Here is an interesting interview with a Scottish entrepreneur who’s giving it 100% and re-invigorating carpet weaving in the UK while he’s at it!

We’ll wrap up this sampling of news with another interesting effort in the UK. A great read taking a look at the history of the Kitchener stitch, and a campaign in the UK to knit poppies to commemorate World War I.

Aren’t we lucky to be bitten by the fiber-arts bug?!
