Halcyon Highlight: Handspinner Rudy Amann

Rudyteaching

It’s time for another Halcyon Highlight, a special feature in which we introduce you to the talents of one of our amazing customers. Rudy Amann, a handspinning master and extraordinary teacher is the second to be honored.

In January of 1992, after retiring from 35 years in education as both a teacher and an administrator, Rudy started handspinning. His spinning mentor was Priscilla Gibson-Roberts. It wasn’t long before he became an accomplished spinner. He soon found himself teaching others to spin at Knitter’s Day Out in his home state of Pennsylvania. What a wonderful way to continue his teaching career and foster a new passion. In the late 90’s he began teaching spinning and nalbinding at Stitches East and Stitches West. From 1994-2008 he attended Interweave’s Spin-Off Autumn Retreats, teaching at 7 of them. Much to our good fortune, he moved to Brunswick, Maine in 1998 (it’s just one town over from Halcyon Yarn’s home in Bath, Maine). He has since added teaching at Halcyon Yarn, Pleasant Mountain Fiber Arts and Fiber College to his teaching repertoire.

Rudy has written extensively on the topic of handspinning. He has numerous published articles in Spin-Off magazine such as “How to Choose Your Spinning Wheel”, “Woolen vs. Worsted” and “Matching Commercial Yarn”. Look for his most recent article, ” Choosing the Right Whorl” in this fall’s issue of Spin-Off. It is safe to say Rudy Amann is one of the most talented and experienced teacher’s in the Northeast. He is a real gem in the fiber world.

To experience Rudy’s exceptional talents first hand join him Friday and Saturday, July 26th and 27th when he teaches Intensive Beginning Spinning at Halcyon Yarn. Here’s what previous students have said…

“Rudy is, as you know, an outstanding spinning instructor!” I feel privileged to have been in his class and hope it won’t be his last.”

“One of the best teachers I’ve ever encountered.”

“Rudy is a remarkable teacher – every component was extraordinarily well planned, paced and contributed to the whole. Just wonderful!”

“It was a wonderful learning experience – Rudy is a great instructor!”

“I would take any class he offered.”
