Small Business Saturday, and keeping fiber arts vibrant
We wanted to take a moment to let you know about Small Business Saturday – officially recognized by the US Senate – coming up on November 30th. We’re excited that there is increasing awareness of the value of supporting small, independent, and local businesses. Why? Because we love the fiber arts, we love our customers, and we love, er, doing business. It’s symbiotic: we share our excitement with our customers, and our customers share their excitement with us. Quite literally, we couldn’t do it without you!

So many things to try, learn, experiment; the fiber arts community is diverse and needs support. Knitters, weavers, crocheters, felters, fiber-artists of all types come into the store, talk to us on the phone, email us, and it is a joy to be a part of it. We get questions that most big businesses can’t answer, and we carry products that are hard to find (and aren’t all that profitable hehe!). We work with low volume, artisanal vendors (who inspire us). We teach classes with both small and large enrollment. We support our city (Bath, ME), offer free community fiber groups, and support fiber guilds all over the country. We do this because we enjoy it, and because it’s a role we’ve enjoyed for over 40 years. Our shop is getting busy with people preparing for the holidays. Lots of projects under way this time of year! In an effort to help small businesses compete in the busy holiday marketing season, Small Business Saturday is recognized as an opportunity to promote shopping at (and supporting) small, independent businesses. |

As an additional incentive, holders of American Express Cards can sign-up to get a one-time $10 rebate from American Express when shopping in-store at registered small businesses and using their American Express card. Halcyon Yarn is participating this year and welcomes you to sign up (required), then come in and shop, then keep an eye out for your $10 rebate from American Express on your AmEx statement (this rebate only applies to in-store sales, not online or phone sales).
