Louët Wheels made in Holland of Beech and Birch

The best features of the Louët wheels are that they treadle lightly, are easy to learn on and can be modified to satisfy the expert spinners. The Louët wheels were originlly geared towards spinning medium to heavy yarns. Although bobbins and flyers are available for spinning this type of yarn, responding to demand, the standard wheels have been redesigned to be more suitable for spinning fine to medium yarns. The orifice on the standard wheel is sufficiently large 12.5 mm (1/2") as are the bobbins (180-250 gr. capacity) to allow you to create novelty yarns. All wheels come equipped with a two bobbin lazy kate. All Louët wheels have a single-belt bobbin drive with an adjustable flyer brake to regulate the tension. The flexible belts are made of polyurethane and never have to be adjusted. All bobbins have a whorl with three settings on one side, that can be used to obtrain three spinning speeds. The ratios are: 1:5.5 for slow spinning and heavy yarn, 1:7.5 for medium yarn and 1:10.5 for fast spinning and fine yarns.

Schacht Wheels made in the USA

Schacht's Matchless spinning wheel is available in two styles. The original style has one broad treadle, which allows you to use one or both feet while treadling. The new double treadle style has two treadles that move independently of each other. Aside from the treadles, both wheels are exactly the same. They come with two whorls for a total of four drive ratios - medium (9 and 11:1) and fast (13 and 15.5:1), a scotch tension lazy kate, four bobbins, a threading hook, and a shoulder strap for easy carrying. Either wheel can be used in double drive or scotch tension modes. Minimal assembly required.
