Banner Contest sponsored by and celebrating Halcyon Yarn’s 40th “Ruby” Anniversary

It’s a Ruby Anniversary Banner Contest!!!

We want to showcase your creativity! There are so many ways that we’ve been inspired by our customers over the years – projects in knitting, weaving, crochet, felting, hooking, tatting, the list goes on and on and that’s not even counting all the combinations – knitting and felting, weaving and hooking, yikes so much fun! Well, we want to have some fun examples of  your work to highlight the diversity of what you create – and to highlight our 40 years of working together…

So, we’re having a “Banner Contest”! Prizes: $400.00 Halcyon Yarn gift certificate for the first prize and a $200.00 Halcyon Yarn gift certificate for the second prize will be awarded. Entry form can be found here.
The banners will be judged by the Halcyon Yarn staff and 5 will be picked to display on the Halcyon Yarn website and in store where all may vote for their 1st and 2nd choices.

Web site and in store voting will take place June 1 – 15, 2011 and the winners will be announced Monday, June 21, 2011. The banners will be displayed throughout the summer and fall activities celebrating the Halcyon Yarn 40th “Ruby” Anniversary.

Deadline for submissions is May 17, 2011. The banners may be hand delivered or shipped to Halcyon Yarn, 12 School Street, Bath, ME 04530 between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM Monday – Friday prior to the deadline of May 17, 2011. Entry form can be found here.

The banners must measure 18” (wide) and 30” (long) and have a 3” rod pocket across the 18” horizontal width at the top.
The banners may be displayed outdoors, exposed to the elements, so artists should consider the materials and techniques when creating their banners.

Banners should be created using one or more of the following fiber techniques: weaving, knitting, crocheting, felting, dyeing, hand spinning, hooking and/or punching. (These are all fiber techniques for which Halcyon Yarn sells supplies and teaches classes). They should reflect any of the following ideas: 40 years, ruby anniversary, red and shades of red, as well as good design, creativity, whimsy, perhaps use of fun and alternative materials, and the idea of celebrating fiber work, fiber art, and the people who do it.

Entries will become the property of Halcyon Yarn. No employees of Halcyon Yarn may qualify for the prizes to be awarded. Entry form can be found here.

We can’t wait to see what you’ve got to show us!!
