Summer Specials

Here in Maine this is the time of year when we head-up-to-camp and if you haven’t had the pleasure of a Maine camping trip I hope you’ll remedy that – there’s nothing like it! Whether it’s a lakeside cabin, a tent or paddle in the woods up north, or a picnic at one of our beautiful beaches, there’s nothing better than good company, a good fiber project, and summer in Maine. No camp-out or summer kitchen is complete without good hand towels and our classic cotton Camp & Cottage Towel kits are a fun summer weaving project. If you start now you’ll have plenty on hand while the summer sun is still shining!

 

 

These are a perfect “new weaver” project that lets you play with color in the stripes and yields a great set of four plain weave kitchen towels in 8/2 Homestead Cotton. Requires a 4-shaft or rigid heddle loom with a weaving width of 22″ and reed capable of 18epi. The project can be easily modified to a slightly narrower or wider width and works nicely at a sett range of 16-20epi, depending whether you prefer a lighter or denser weave. Instructions are written for multi-harness or rigid heddle weaving.

As fluffy and ethereal as its namesake summer clouds, Cumulus Cotton is an extra soft and loft medium weight cotton. The cabled construction makes for an airy feel so even at the suggested gauge of 4-5 stitches per inch on a 7-9 needle your pieces won’t feel dense or too heavy for summer.
