Welcome Cascade Luna Paints
Over the coming weeks we’ll be introducing new yarns we’ve added here at Halcyon Yarn. Our first introduction is a welcomed addition for summer knitting. [Sorry, item discontinued or temporarily out of stock] is a multi-colored, worsted/medium weight yarn made from 100% Peruvian cotton. WOW – we love the color combinations. There’s a great selection, from bold brights perfect for babies and kids to more subtle combinations that will appeal to adults. Better yet, Luna Paints and [Sorry, item discontinued or temporarily out of stock] can be used together in the same weaving, knitting and crochet patterns.

Knitters will appreciate the free patterns available from Cascade. The average gauge is 4.5 stitches per inch on size 7 needles so it will work up beautifully in most worsted weight patterns. The Neck Down Children’s Tunic by Knitting Pure and Simple is favorite pattern among staff and would look so cute knit up with Luna Paints. To give you a better idea of how Luna Paints knits up we’ve included a picture of Cascade’s top down baby cardigan (download here) knit solely in Luna Paints… Then below see the same sweater in a version we knit for the shop – we used a combination of Luna Paints and Casco Bay Worsted Cotton. We have to admit it is really fun playing with colors and matching a multi-color to the perfect solid. Update: We will happily print the Top Down Baby Cardigan pattern for you and include it in your order that includes Cascade.

Weavers, get the creative juices flowing and start envisioning Luna Paints woven into the most adorable baby blanket or placemats and table runners. Plan on a sett of 5-6 for tabby and 8-10 for twill. For those of you who are a little more adventuresome, consider combining Luna Paints with different weight yarns. We’ve been playing with it on the loom here at the shop and will let you know as soon as we have patterns available. Until then, try substituting Luna Paints for Casco Bay Worsted Cotton in the [Sorry, item discontinued or temporarily out of stock] .
