Begin to Spin
Instructor: Linda Clutterbuck. Meets on: Two consecutive Saturdays: February 3rd & February 10th, 2018, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm each day.
This is a two day class for anyone ready to learn how to spin on a spinning wheel. Class meets on two consecutive Saturdays, and no experience is needed.
Day 1 - Learn the 3 T's of beginning spinning: treadling, tension, and twist. Learn to treadle your spinning wheel and adjust the tension to put twist in the fiber to create yarn. You will also learn basic wheel mechanics and maintenance to keep your wheel fine tuned and running smoothly.
Day 2 - Learn the fundamentals of fiber prep, plying, creating a skein, and finishing the skein to 'set the twist'.
You'll leave with the skill and confidence to keep spinning on your own, and
Materials: Handouts and fiber are supplied.
Students should bring a spinning wheel in good working order and at least 3 bobbins for that wheel.
Students should bring a spinning wheel in good working order, two bobbins with spun singles, and a 3rd bobbin for plying, a niddy noddy, and a lazy kate.
Please bring your lunch both days, and note taking materials if you wish.
You may rent a spinning wheel from Halcyon Yarn for the duration of the class. Rental fee is $30.00 and may be applied to the purchase of a wheel within 30 days. Please talk with us when you register to determine which wheel you'd like to use, rentals must be arranged prior to the start of class.
