For greater versatility, add the Swinging Beater which is available as an add-on. The Beaters can be interchanged in a few minutes. The batten handtree (1) batten sley (2) and the reed for the beater, pivot at the anchor point on the handtree allowing the Reed to meet the fell of the cloth at precisely a 90 degree angle on each pick.
