Description
If you've never used a linen dishcloth, your kitchen is missing out! When we couldn’t find replacements for the ones we got while traveling, we decided to weave our own, closely replicating the canvas weave structure and classic look of the Irish ones we've enjoyed using in the past.
This 'canvas' weave lace project is a wonderful introduction to these classic kitchen accessories. Lace weaves are magic in the way the structure ‘opens’ to create a latticework after washing. Each cloth is a workhorse at picking up crumbs and debris off your counters while quickly drying at the sink, making it very resistant to ‘souring,’ which cotton seems to invite.
Suitable for advanced beginner to intermediate weavers, the project is quick and easy to weave with our original pattern in 16/2 Newport Linen and 5/2 Pearl Cotton for accent stripes.
Our fast weaving kit has a 12-epi sett for the 16/2 Newport Linen and 24-epi for the separating stripes in 5/2 Pearl Cotton. Each cloth is finished with a turned hem and has a finished size of approximately 12.5" x 14.5-15" after hemming and washing. They'll shrink up a bit more after a trip through the drier.
Each kit contains detailed instructions for both multi-shaft and rigid heddle weavers and yarn to complete six durable dishcloths. Keep some for yourself and give the rest as gifts!
Equipment Needed:
A 15" wide, four-shaft loom with a 12-dent reed, threading hook, and your preferred weaving shuttles/bobbins. Or, for weaving on a rigid heddle: A 15-inch or wider rigid heddle loom with 12-dent rigid heddle reed. A slim boat shuttle with 3 bobbins, one for each weft. (Smaller/slim boat shuttles are easier to pass through the narrower shed of a rigid heddle reed). Alternatively, three 14-18” stick shuttles (one for each weft), and one or two pick-up sticks 16” to 20” long.
Yarn Included:
Natural 16/2 Linen 1,150 yds, 105 yds each of two accent colors in 5/2 Pearl Cotton.
