Don’t spin ’em like they used to? Bartlettyarns: yes they do!
Bartlettyarns is a New England favorite, for good reason.
We love visiting Bartlettyarns! This local, traditional mill, has an historic 100%-legitimate, old-timey ambiance that takes us to a cozy place. Here, yarn is spun on machinery made of wood and metal, without plastic or computers. Using an original mule-spinner, it’s spun from regionally sourced fleeces, in small batches. Quality counts.
This type of spinning gives the yarn a lofty hand and rustic looking quality that’s perfect for mittens and sweaters. The mule spinning process mimics a long draw in hand spinning and the yarn has more of a homespun quality than anything else we’ve seen.
So we were delighted to see the story, pictures, and video tour of Bartlettyarns by the Bangor Daily News. It’s a great tale of how the business has stayed true to it’s ideals over the course of close to two centuries! Yes, you heard that right: at 196 years, we’ll call it two centuries. (By comparison it’s a drop in the bucket, but Halcyon Yarn has proudly stocked Batlettyarns for over two decades.)
Take a gander and you’ll be see why we love the yarn, the mill, and the people behind the brand. Then, take a gander at Bartlettyarns Maine Wool Yarn, a favorite Maine yarn that carries a wonderful weight of tradition. The Bartlettyarns Maine Wool - Sport Yarn is available by special order as well.
Thank you Bartlettyarns, and thank you Bangor Daily News for sharing the story!
