Merino is among the softest and finest wools, with counts ranging from 64 to 70 and staple lengths of just over 3 inches. In addition to being fine, fine, and more fine, merino fibers have a close, tight crimp, giving consistent loft to spun yarn. Merino is lovely for blending, luxurious on its own, and wonderful for needle felting and wet felting. The micron count is 21 to 23.

When needle felting, be careful not to use a too-large needle, as this can leave visible holes in the delicate fiber.
