CLICK for Babies, Newborn Caps Needed

BABY-HAT-PURPLE-FINAL purple-acro

Click for Babies is a national campaign to gain awareness about the Period of PURPLE Crying, a normal but frustrating period of increased crying all infants experience in the first few weeks and months of birth. The word “PURPLE” is an acronym to help parents and caregivers recognize and remember the characteristics of normal infant crying. This is an evidence-based program to help parents and caregivers understand this normal increased crying in healthy infants and prevent abuse; namely, shaken baby syndrome.

Hospitals partnering with this organization are collecting newborn knit and crochet caps to be given to baby boys and girls. Check their website, www.clickforbabies.org, for participating hospitals in your area. For those in mid-coast Maine, caps can be sent to:  Midcoast Maine Community Action, Att:  Melissa Kettell, 34 Wing Farm Parkway, Bath, ME 04530

Caps should be made using soft baby-friendly yarns, be at least 50% purple in color, as well as free of straps, strings and other potential choking and strangling hazards. Please remember to include “boy friendly” colors in your design when making caps for baby boys. For more information and resources, including patterns for caps, tools to spread the word and FAQ’s visit www.clickforbabies.org. Also, you can download our Caps for Kids pattern for free, and, the Baby’s First Hat pattern shown above is free with yarn purchase.

What a wonderful idea! No participating hospitals here in CA, but I plan to make some caps and choose another state at random. Per the website, caps should be sent by yesterday – can’t make that deadline cuz my time machine is in the shop, but since the caps wont be distributed until November, I am thinking the hospitals wont mind mine being a bit late. :D
