I have a friend who has been blind since birth. She also has MS so she has some dexterity problems, However she is able to knit and use a larger pot holder loom. I have an Ashford rigid heddle loom which seems too difficult for her. Would the flip loom be easier for a non sighted person to use? Or do you have any other suggestions? Thank you.

Hi MaryRosborough, What a great example of the universal joy of fiber arts! Very cool that you and your friend are having fun weaving. I can see how the Ashford rigid heddle is tricky, particularly if it’s a wider width? I’m not sure that the flip would be much different. I’ll ask around the store for suggestions next week, but my first thought is that something a little narrower and simpler might help? For example the SampleIt: https://halcyonyarn.com/weaving/68901500/ashford-sampleit-10-rigid-heddle-loom-wbuilt-in-second-heddle-option or Cricket: https://halcyonyarn.com/weaving/64327000/schacht-cricket-10-rigid-heddle-loom-kit I’ll update this reply / let you know if I hear any other suggestions from other staff. Let us know with other questions and very good luck!

Hello, can you please tell me what kind of loom in the above picture is? (with the little girl weaving) It looks very easy and exactly what I am looking for…Thank you.

    1. Gretchen says:

      Hi Jesse,
The loom pictured is the Schacht Flip Rigid Heddle, and we’ve shown it in the 25″ width with the optional stand. The Flip looms are also available in 15″, 20″ and 30″ widths. Each comes with one rigid heddle reed, and additional reeds can be purchased separately. This is a great loom to get started on, however it will also last a long time and offer a lot of versatility so you won’t get bored! Hope this helps, and if you have any questions or want to know more details as you make a selection, please call or email, we’re glad to help. Thanks for your interest, and happy weaving!
