We’re looking forward to putting more ‘local’ back into our LYS!

For those of you who know us as an online store the ‘local’ part of Halcyon Yarn may not be top of mind, however we believe that being a small independent business, deeply rooted in our local community is part of the value we offer you – even if you’re a thousand miles away. When you contact us you’ll always reach a real person who works in the store and loves yarn as much as you do, and your order will ship directly from our shop in Bath, Maine. We don’t use third party fulfillment networks or unreliable drop shippers who may not stand behind their products and services the way we promise to. We are always here to help you make the most of the crafts and materials you love!

What about the locals? Up here in Maine we love our yarn and we love our local customers, as well as the many fiber enthusiasts who’ve visited us over the years from near and far! As many of you know, since the start of the covid pandemic the retail shop part of our business has remained closed for in-person shopping. This has been a hard choice to make, however between the initial health concerns, the operational changes we made in response, supply chain challenges, and labor shortages – as well as the arrival of a new baby, this was the path we needed to take to stay afloat and stay sane. We know it has inconvenienced many of you not to be able to see and feel these lovely items in person and we have really missed seeing you, helping you, and learning from you here in the store. We are grateful for your patience and your continued business.

Good news! Many of you have asked whether we are ever going to reopen the retail shop… Yes!

We will resume in-person shopping later this year! There’s a lot going on behind the scenes here as we prepare to for some big changes so we do not have a date yet, but we will be giving more regular updates and sneak peeks of what’s happening as we get ready to welcome you back to shopping in-person. We are excited to again be a destination on your fiber bucket list and a great local stop when you need your fill of gorgeous natural fibers. Check your inbox for updates – we look forward to seeing you again before too long!

Thank you again for being the best customers any LYS could ask for – near or far! We look forward to seeing more of you in person and online and, as always, we are delighted to help you in all your fiber arts adventures so please reach out any time!

You have always been my go to shop. Covid has changed my weaving life as well.I enjoyed when a New England Road Trip brought me to your shop. Your way of doing business has always made me feel as if I was getting local shop help and advise when I shop hundreds of miles away. I will be in touch soon. JoyWeaves

I am delighted to read that you anticipate re-opening the shop to the public! I remember my last trip to Halcyon (perhaps 5 years or more ago), but have been shopping online since then. I look forward to a visit, a chance to feels the yarns, savor the colors, and more.

  6. Karen Oliverius says:

10 years ago, I was in the area for business and first on my bucket list of places to visit was your store. Just seeing all the fiber on the shelves, and the wonderful help I received blew my mind! All of the projects I bought for are now done. Unfortunately, life happens and I wasn’t able to use your online store until recently (I did recommend you to many people). I was thrilled with how quickly my order was acknowledged and shipped. My yarn cones are waiting to be used for a woven vest, and I’m already thinking of more projects. Thank you for finding ways to stay in operation during this stressful time. Now that I’m retired, I think a road trip is in order!

  7. Deb Thomas says:

a yarn I may purchase. Good for you, glad for the new baby as well!

  11. Angela Linke says:

Awesome News that you’ll be re-opening again!! Even though I live in NH, I’m in or driving through Bath frequently and I’ve missed stopping in the store.

  12. Baldwin-Wilson Victoria says:

Can’t wait for in store shopping. I buy more when I can see and feel. 😃

I’m so excited to hear that you will re-open!

  14. Margi says:

I’m so pleased that you will be reopening! We love stopping by when we are visiting family in the area. Some of our favorite sweaters started unexpectedly in your shop. Good news!!!

  15. Patricia Nolin says:

I always appreciate your personal service. It is always nice to speak to you. You are very helpful.

  16. Pat says:

It’s good to know you will be reopening the store. I’ve purchased online with you but nothing compares to being there in person. I was in the shop on our vacation to Maine some years back and found the most wonderful handpainted Australian wool, with a woven sample on the shelf. Bought that and wove my first scarf, which I still wear constantly and get such compliments on. I buy more when I get there in person and enjoy the trip up from our vacation hotel. I’ll be up in June. Hope you’re open when I get there.

  17. carolyn says:

Thanks for the update -can’t wait for the in-store shopping to begin!

  18. Jo says:

Good news that you’ll reopen this year. I live in Bath and have missed the experience of visiting the shop and being able to really see the colours and feel the fibres. Understand your reasons for staying closed so long of course but happy you’ll be back.

  19. Gretchen, I was about to order some rug yarn ( are you showing “Deco”?) and there are many colors that I don’t recognize. Do you have an updated yarn sample card available ? Also, I am making some new and interesting woolware and would like to use some Geo. Do you still sell Geo ?

  20. Looking forward to seeing opened doors once again Gretchen.

  21. Chris Antonak says:

I have loved and always will love Halcyon Yarn. I have truly missed in person shopping with you. The wonderful classes you offered have been one of the biggest highlights in my fiber education and appreciation.

Running an in person, brick and mortar shop is challenging, and I applaud your courage in making the tough decisions that were necessary for your personal and business life.

As a resident of Brunswick, Maine, I will be among the first to zip into your store when your doors open again!

  22. Stacy says:

This is the best email I’ve seen since 2019!! I’m so excited you’re reopening and I again get to touch wool! Thank you!

  23. Marcie Ruskin says:

I’m a “yarn fondler”. Which means the pandemic really messed with my ability to select yarn that I truly love! So, let’s hear it for buying yarn the ol’ fashioned way – in a touch it, like the way it feels as well as the way it looks.

  24. Thankful says:

I AM a local, and I can walk to Halcyon Yarn from my home on High St. in Bath. I am SOOOOO glad that you will be re-opening so I can go visit all of your beautiful yarn selections. I have missed you and look forward to hearing of your Re-opening Day.

  25. Jane E. Perkins says:

Thank you for moving toward a reopening of the store! Several years ago I wove a rug that now brings me great joy. I could not have done that without being able to stand in your rug yarn aisle and compare the colors in the classic rug wool line with the heathered rug wools. I can’t wait to come back to Bath, meet my fiber-y pals, shop in your store and have lunch at Mae’s Cafe!
