New Pom Pom! Autumn 2017 issue

pompom autumn

Grab your wool and get ready, because fall is almost here! Despite the fact that I miss summer already (and it isn’t even over yet), this time of year always tends to magnify my love of knitting. The perfect thing to get those creative ideas flowing? The new  [Sorry, item discontinued or temporarily out of stock] !

The latest issue of PomPom Quarterly is a very special one, guest edited by Juju Vail. In this issue Juju shares her love of handmade clothing – and I don’t just mean knits. All of the clothes for this photo spread were also handmade, carefully chosen to compliment the knitted pieces. Juju’s enthusiasm for having a handmade wardrobe is contagious; with information on what these sewing patterns are called, where they’re from, and what to make them out of (not to mention lots of friendly encouragement), suddenly the idea of a handmade wardrobe seems a little more accessible.

The warm, bold Overcheck cowl shown above is a great opportunity to work on your double knitting skills. Make it super soft and washable with [Sorry, item discontinued or temporarily out of stock] or Jo Sharp New Era Merino DK Superwash Yarn, or treat yourself to a little luxury with [Sorry, item discontinued or temporarily out of stock] .

Mittens are a great way for even the quietest of dressers to be a little loud. These Herati bold colorwork mittens are an approachable way to play with contrasting colors. They’d be warm and sturdy knit up in JaggerSpun Maine Line 2/8 Yarn, which boasts enough colors for everyone to find their favorite.

Diesis is a cover project for a reason. This is a real show-stopper with bright, solid accents that so charmingly compliment the geometric black and white texture of the rest of the sweater. Knit it out of Jo Sharp Classic DK Wool Yarn for a sweater that will last for years in just the right colors.

I was further inspired by Anna Matlz’ column, “Loud Slow Fashion”. I actually got goosebumps reading her profound insights on the subject; Matlz has officially made me rethink the definition of style descriptors such as “timeless” and “chic” and I couldn’t be more thrilled. This issue also features a piece about Merchant & Mills, a very popular company known for their beautiful, well made sewing notions, patterns and fabrics. In fact, we carry Merchant and Mills Wide Bow Scissors, [Sorry, item discontinued or temporarily out of stock] and the Merchant and Mills Bespoke Tape Measure here at the store.

This [Sorry, item discontinued or temporarily out of stock] issue is just what we need to get inspired and busy at the start of this prime knitting (and sewing) season.  While the cold weather and shorter days may end up pushing us indoors for the next few months, at least we’ll have plenty of lovely projects to keep us busy!
