Noni Flowers will Amaze You!

Time once again to let you know what’s new on the bookshelves at Halcyon Yarn!

First up is [Sorry, item discontinued or temporarily out of stock] and – WOW! This collection of 40 exquisite knitted flowers, plus 6 beautiful projects, comes from the creative mind behind Noni Designs, Maine native Nora Bellows. The beauty of these flowers rivals the real botanicals from which she draws inspiration. Although many appear complex (each of which is labeled with a degree of difficulty), you’ll discover the steps needed to create these stunning flowers are easily accomplished. Nora’s instructions are clear and concise for every aspect from knitting and felting to wiring and finishing your work.

Each flower is shown in its knitted version, as well as knitted and felted. Since they are densely knit, allowing for minimal shrinkage, you won’t discern a size difference, only a textural one. You decide the look you like. Nora tends to use worsted weight yarn, but has an excellent section on changing the size of the flowers based on gauge and yarn choice. Speaking of yarns, any of these flowers will work up beautifully in either Lamb's Pride Worsted Yarn, known for its bold array of vibrant colors or Malabrigo Merino Worsted Wool Yarn with its rich kettle dyed colors to emulate the shadings found in nature.

If you’re a fan of Knitbot patterns by Hannah Fettig, you’ll want to get a copy of her book  Knitbot Essentials. Within its pages you’ll find 6 sweater patterns previously sold only as individual patterns, as well as a beret, cowl and fingerless glove pattern. That’s a savings of over $29.00 by purchasing her book!

Known for creating seemingly weightless designs with wonderful drape by using yarns at a larger gauge than recommended on the label, Hannah stresses many of her designs can be knit with a slightly heavier yarn without sacrificing drape. Your sweater fabric will simply be a bit more substantial.

We were instantly intrigued with [Sorry, item discontinued or temporarily out of stock] . This is definitely not just another stitch book. Through bold use of color and texture, knitwear designer, Britt-Marie Christoffersson teaches you techniques for creating striking knitted fabrics. The book includes a series of swatches and pictures of finished products to stimulate your creativity. Incorporating these innovative techniques into simple designs will result in stunning garments. Have fun experimenting!
