Plan Your Fall Visit To Maine!

Even if you’re a local (maybe especially if you’re a local?!) we hope you’re planning to get out and enjoy the invigorating beauty of fall… Pay us a visit at Halcyon Yarn when you do!

As many of you locals know, this is a great time to get out for a perfect fall day trip or long weekend. Or, like many of our visitors, you’re wrapping up a summer on the road… Now is a great time to make a trip to Halcyon Yarn for sweater weather inspiration or get a head start on holiday gift making.

FALL HOURS

Plan now for upcoming classes, and join us for Open House, Saturday October 6th!

  • Monday – Friday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Saturday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • Sunday, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm (year-round)
  • Please note that we are closed Monday September 3rd for Labor Day.

Plan your visit to Midcoast Maine around a class at Halcyon Yarn!

Everyone gets excited about summer in Maine (including us!), now the change in season brings a whole new kind of beauty and energy to the area. As the leaves start to turn in Midcoast Maine there’s just as much to do outdoors as in!

Here are a few of our favorite fall activities – perfect compliments for your weekend trip to Halcyon Yarn:

Maine Fiber ArtsJust a few minutes away in Topsham, this charming gallery and studio features rotating shows of local fiber artists and gives a glimpse into works in progress in the “Red Studio.” Their website also features a great listing of fiber art studios around the state!

Apple Picking • There are several beautiful farms and orchards in the area so you can’t miss with this family favorite. Stop in for fresh fall cider and pick-your-own apples, be sure to save room for cider donuts! We often trek west over to Ricker Hill Orchards in Turner, or up the coast a little further to Clark’s Cove Farm in Walpole.

Dinner in Portland • Portland, Maine, is home to less than 100,000 people, yet it was recently named “Restaurant City of the Year” by Bon Appetit! Check out the highlights, but don’t think for a minute the good food ends at the city limits, there’s great dining in Bath too, and in many of the towns you’ll stop in making your way up the coast.

Hike a KELT trail • The Kennebec Estuary Land Trust (KELT) helps protect and maintain over 18,000 acres of beautiful natural landscapes and rare habitat in the unique Kennebec Estuary. For a fun fall hike just a few miles from Halcyon Yarn head to the north end of town and hit the Thorne’s Head trail (dogs on leash are welcome), you’ll be rewarded with a view of gorgeous foliage, as well as eagles and osprey over Merrymeeting Bay.

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens • Open through the end of October these beautifully curated gardens feature waterside hiking trails, a whimsical children’s garden and fairy houses, and permanent sculpture installations as well as rotating exhibits. If you’re around in December don’t miss the spectacular Gardens Aglow!

Maine Maritime Museum • Right down the street from us here in Bath, this world class museum is open year round. Enjoy the beautiful campus on the Kennebec River and distinctive nautical exhibits including “You Sank My Battleship: Maritime Games and Pop Culture” and the upcoming  “Claus Hoie: Watercolor Fantasia,” as well as the permanent feature “Into The Lantern: A Lighthouse Experience.”

Fort Popham • Sunbathing days may be behind us soon, but the water is still warm enough to wade along the shore and explore tide pools. Plus, the stretch of beach beside the fort is dog-friendly! This historical site features a unique Civil War fort and offers one of my favorite views from the mouth of the Kennebec River across to Georgetown and out to the Seguin Island Lighthouse. Take a trip out to Seguin by boat too if you have the time, or plan for it next year!

After Labor Day many Inns and B&B’s reduce their rates, but nearly all your favorite activities are still going strong. We’re always glad to help you plan your visit and you’ll find lots of resources at visitbath.com for dining, lodging, shopping, and general adventuring… See you soon!
