Quick woven and felted Valentines heart
Need a quick, fun, heart-felt project? With a little weaving thrown in for fun? We did! Here’s how it went…
We used merino prefelt but you could use regular felt or woolen fabric. The merino prefelt has fun colors, is forgiving, and needle felts easily! Just fold in half with your colors:
We measured about the size of our hand, and then cut both colors into a “U” shape:
Next, cut up the middle, 3/4 of the way or more:
Cut again, each half in half:
Test the strips for length. They should be about as long as the pieces are wide:
Weave the strips so that you alternately go “through” then “outside the opposing strips:
Continue weaving, making adjustments and pulling the pieces even (prefelt is forgiving!):
Now you have a heart! You could finish now….
Or you could felt and embellish!
Needle felting quickly holds your heart together, and gives you a chance to shape it.
For embellishing, we used Geo Rug Wool and Halcyon Yarn Rug Wool, lightly needle felted:
Voila! Happy Valentines day all!
CLEVER and very pretty.
