We just got a new shipment of Rios in the shop and it’s all I can think about!
I am absolutely crazed for this yarn. I spent the last week getting together a holiday knitting list – projects, yarn, patterns, names. Who gets what, what do I have time to do, etc. Then the boxes of Rios came in. All I can think about now is what can I knit with Rios. I have to re-think the whole list: who gets what out of Rios. Making everyone something out of Rios is the only way I can knit with it from now until forever! Barring against my running out – I bought a whole lot in two different colors to add to the other color I was stashing. I then spent Thursday evening combing my patterns to find projects I want to start… I already made one sweater to show in the shop from a Chic Knits pattern.
This yarn is SO soft, just like you would expect 100% merino to be but it always seems like Malabrigo adds something special to the yarn potion. Their yarn surpasses soft and ends up in a realm very close to velvet newborn baby skin; suffice it to say you want this yarn against your skin. I have always loved the original Malabrigo Merino but I have to tell you – I REALLY love Rios. It’s fantastic to have a Malabrigo superwash but what I really love are the 4-ply’s. You can kiss that crazy pilling goodbye and this yarn has sheen you can dive into.
I haven’t even talked about color yet!! Every time a new dye lot comes in, the colorways look different. You can pick a favorite color this time and when the next shipment comes, you’ll have a new favorite. You might even like the new lot of your favorite better this time around! I love this aspect of the yarn but also let it serve as a warning: get more than enough for your project and don’t expect the same intensity and play of color from lot to lot. It gets better each time!
What are you going to knit?
