Wow, on 4-shaft loom? Woven Star Towels…

Best of Handwoven, Techniques Series: Shdaow Weave

Shadow Weave-Handwoven eBook Printed Copy

Having just celebrated our nation’s birthday, red, white and blue and the Star Spangled Banner are fresh in my mind. It’s no wonder the blue and white Star Towels in Color-and-Weave by Britt-Marie Lamb featured in the Shadow Weave-Handwoven eBook Printed Copy caught my attention. I’ve long admired similar woven star patterns, but have always been dissuaded by the fact they all required an 8 shaft loom. I found this design particularly intriguing because the weave structure only requires a 4-shaft loom with *8 treadles. I also liked the other designs you can weave from the same threading.

The original pattern calls for 22/2 cottolin. What luck, 8/2 Cottolin Organic Yarn can be substituted without having to change a thing. Color-and-weave patterns are particularly effective when woven with high contrast colors. If the patriotic theme isn’t your design of choice, never fear. This design looks smashing in any number of available combos. We’ve come up with a few suggestions, but also encourage you to check out all the available 8/2 Cottolin Organic Yarn colors to create your own combo. Only 1 tube of each color is needed to weave 4 towels. A great project at a great price!

*Don’t worry if you only have 6 treadles on your loom. You’ll simply need to step on two treadles at the same time for some shaft combinations. In addition to a 21″ or wider 4-shaft loom you’ll need a reed for 20 ends per inch.

We’ve created some quick-one-click-kits, just one click to put one of 8 color combinations in your cart! Check ’em out:
