Carefree Crochet by May Britt Bjella Zamori has something for every crocheter. With so many projects to choose from, I had a hard time narrowing down my favorites to share with you! May Britt loves to play with texture, and these projects don’t disappoint. From small accessories to full size sweaters, everything in this book was thoughtfully designed by someone who clearly loves the art of crochet.
This Fringed Bag is practical and cute, with an almost macrame appearance due to the long fringe and flap details. The pattern includes instructions for a crocheted strap, although the designer chose to use a recycled leather strap for the bag in the photo. That sounds like a great chance to get creative!

I love this simple Beige top, worked entirely in double crochet. This versatile top is beautiful in a neutral color, or choose a variegated yarn for more of a statement piece. I’m almost definitely going to make this for myself using the soft and subtly metallic Arroyo Yarn by Malabrigo.
Sizes: 34 (37, 39.5, 42.5, 45.75, 48.5)” chest
24.5 (25.25, 26, 26.75, 27.5, 28.25)” length
Gauge: 16 sts and 11 rows = 4″ using size E-4 crochet hook.
Yarn: Fingering weight yarn such as Cotton Carpet Warp 8/4 Yarn or 5/2 Pearl Cotton Yarn; 780 (975, 1170, 1365, 1560, 1755) yards
Another thing I love about May Britt’s designs is her use of contrasting textures. The gauzy White Poncho shown above is the perfect example; fuzzy laceweight yarn makes up the body of this flowing poncho, and the borders worked in a sturdier, heavier weight yarn. This helps keep things tidy while also weighing the piece down a bit, providing excellent drape.
Size: 41″ long at center front.
Gauge: Approxiamtely 7 repeats in pattern over 21 ch and 8 rows = 4″ using size E-4 crochet hook.
Yarn: Body: Lace weight, lightweight yarn such as Juniper Moon Farm Herriot Fine Yarn; 1,337 yards
Border: Smooth DK weight such as Cascade Ultra Pima Cotton Yarn; 480 yards
These fun pillows are perfect stash busters! Each of the covers is made like a tube, with the ends tightened shut after placing the pillow inside.
Size: 15.75″ in diameter
Gauge: Size E-4 crochet hook recommended.
Yarn: DK to light worsted weight yarn such as Jo Sharp Classic DK Wool Yarn or Cascade 220 Superwash Wool Yarn, in an assortment of colors OR leftover scrap yarn.
