Attention, everyone! There’s a new yarn on the block that will make you rethink everything you know about working with cotton: Cumulus Cotton by Juniper Moon Farm Yarn. Cumulus is a magical Aran weight cotton chainette yarn with a nylon binder for added strength. I fell in love at first squish with this incredibly soft and lightweight chainette yarn – but just wait until you see (and feel) how it knits up…

Cumulus Cotton by Juniper Moon Farm Yarn

This yarn is surprisingly durable, but without the extra weight that usually comes with cotton. It machine washes beautifully and it can be used for anything from accessories to garments for the whole family. Patterns remain lofty and hold their shape beautifully unlike many heavier gauge cottons. Weavers will enjoy this yarn for added texture and interest in washable table linens or towels. The yardage is great too!

Yarn: 94% Israeli Mako Cotton, 6% Nylon (polyamide). Hand wash, lay flat to dry. 248 yards/100 gram skein.

Available in both solid and variegated colors.

Gauge: 16 -2 0 sts to 4″ US 7 – 9 needles; 11 – 14 stitches per 4″ on size I9 – K10.5 crochet hook.

Cumulus Cotton by Juniper Moon Farm Yarn

This easy project was a fun way to play with the loftiness of Cumulus, and introduced me to a technique I hadn’t tried before. Knit entirely in garter stitch, the rows of chunky “slipped” stitches are created at the end. How? Carefully dropped stitches are unraveled, then chained back together up the length of the piece before binding off. Buttons are then attached to hold the cowl in place. Or if you don’t like sewing on buttons (like myself) you can always use a shawl pin instead.
Size: One size.
Gauge: 15 stitches to 4″ on size US 8 knitting needles in garter stitch after blocking.
