It knits up quickly in Juniper Moon Stratus, this luxurious Aran weight chainette yarn creates a surprisingly versatile and comfy accessory that is perfect for layering. The Fortitude is worked back and forth to begin, then joined to work in the round to the end. Totally seamless, totally reversible – and sized to fit most adult shoulders. Project calls for size US 9 needle and 5 balls (568 yards) Stratus, or similar weight yarn.

Yes, the inspiration for the “Fortitude” came from the excellent and creepy British TV series of the same name, filmed in Iceland for sub-zero beauty.
The show is not for the faint of heart – but this style is for everyone!

JUNIPER MOON STRATUS YARN

This warm, soft blend is enhanced by its chainette construction, which also allows the yarn to be as lightweight and lofty as can be, while providing a surprisingly wide range of gauges. The unique construction provides strength as well as good stitch definition in a thicker yarn without becoming too dense or heavy. Stratus makes these luxurious fibers easy to use with ample yardage and a modern, fun color palette.

Yarn: 60% merino wool, 10% yak, 10% baby alpaca, 20% nylon. Handwash in cool water, lay flat to dry. 142 yards/50 gram ball.

Gauge: 3.5-5 stitches per inch on US size 7-10.5 knitting needles; 2.75-2.5 sts per inch on size I-9 to K-10.5 crochet hook.

What’s old is new. Over 40 years ago, Halcyon Yarn created a yarn with a distinctively tight, pearly twist. Originally called “Scottish Tapestry,” this Aran weight 2-ply wool later became known as “Botanica.” Although this squishy, sturdy yarn was first developed for weavers, we couldn’t help but take our knitting needles and crochet hooks to it over the years.
Now with new pattern support for both knitters and weavers, we’ve given our old favorite a beautiful refresh…
(Re)Introducing: Norumbega Yarn.

For over 35 years, our unique Aran weight 2-ply yarn has provided us with warm, cozy sweaters that still look good after years of wear.  The tight, pearly twist of Norumbega Yarn (previously known as Botanica) makes it impervious to pilling, and this Maine-made yarn is an excellent choice for hard-wearing sweaters and cold weather accessories.

The Norumbega Fall 2018 collection features three brand new sweater patterns. Check them out below!
